Owing to the prevalent COVID-19 situation, the function could not be conducted in 2021 and was combined with the 50-year celebrations in 2022. It also featured an online CME which showcased guest lectures from Dr. Young Chul Suh from Republic of Korea who elaborated upon "Perforator Flaps - Upper Limb" and Dr Jorge F. Clifton from Mexico who enlightened us about "Recent Advances in Brachial Plexus Surgery". The CME was well attended and received.
A public awareness campaign was conducted by our department on hand transplantation on 18th Nov, 2016. The programme was conducted specifically for the amputees and their family members. 47 patients attended the programme who were oriented and counselled on topics such as hand donation, procurement of organs, hand transplantation techniques and rehabilitation following hand transplantation.
An awareness programme on fire and safety programme was conducted by our department on July 15,2016 (plastic surgery day) in collaboration with royapuram fire department. Safety protocols and first aid measures were demonstrated by the officers of the fire department where hospital doctors and nursing students participated.
A seminar on craniosynostosis was conducted at plastic surgery auditorium on 19th march, 2016. The chairperson was Dr Sridhar K. MS, MCh, Senior consultant plastic surgeon at SIMS Hospital, chennai and the guest speaker was
Dr B.Chidambaram MS, MCh, senior consultant neurosurgeon at Kanchi Kamakoti Child Trust Hospital, Chennai. The event was presided over by Dr Isaac Christian mosses, then dean, Govt Stanley hospital & medical college.
On 2nd October of 2015, we had a felicitation in celebration of our Founder Chief Prof.R.Venkatasamy who is renowned all over the world for his noted work in the field of plastic and reconstructive surgery. He is the author of many peer reviewed journals and scientific papers. He has also authored a textbook “The injured hand and its functional restoration”.
This CME was conducted on July 10, 2015 in commemoration of plastic surgery day with the theme “elegance, eminence, & exquisiteness of plastic surgery. The chief guest was Mr J.Radhakrishnan, Health secretary of Tamilnadu health services. Scientific sessions followed by animated debates on topic of mamoplasty and rhinoplasty were conducted by renowned plastic surgeons - Dr Murugesan, Dr K.Ramachandran, Dr Hariharan and Dr T.K.Shankar.
